Job Purpose

To track, analyze, and control production costs at the Pole Plant and ensure the generation of accurate financial reports. The role supports operational efficiency through detailed cost analysis and inventory valuation, contributing to the financial sustainability and profitability of the plant.

Impact: This position plays a critical role in controlling production costs and providing actionable financial insights. It directly supports the financial health and strategic decision-making at the Pole Plant by highlighting cost drivers, inefficiencies, and profit opportunities.

Key Result Areas

  1. Analyze actual production costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actuals.
  2. Maintain and update cost accounting systems, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), labor, overhead, and standard costs.
  3. Assist in inventory valuation, conduct cycle counts, and reconcile physical inventory with the general ledger.
  4. Support month-end close processes by preparing journal entries and production-related financial reports.
  5. Monitor cost variances, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions to reduce waste and improve plant efficiency.
  6. Develop and maintain systems for standard costing and work-in-progress (WIP) tracking.
  7. Recommend pricing strategies based on cost analysis and profitability.
  8. Ensure compliance with internal controls and company financial policies.
  9. Support the budgeting and forecasting process for the production function

  1. Detailed variance analysis reports (standard vs. actual costs)
  2. Accurate and timely management reports
  3. Up-to-date inventory records (untreated poles, WIP, finished goods)
  4. Effective cost management and process control systems
  5. Compliance with internal financial controls
  6. Recommendations for process improvements and cost efficiency

Person Specifications

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional certification or affiliation with ICPAU, ACCA, or CIMA

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in management accounting, financial analysis, or related roles.
  • Experience in the manufacturing sector is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, and advanced MS Excel.
