
GIS Officer - Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL)

Job Purpose
To provide Geographical Information System services to the organization. The officer is also responsible for managing, analyzing, and visualizing spatial data using GIS software and tools to guide strategic and management decisions.
Impact: The GIS Officer ensures that the organization strategy and decisions are viable by providing insights and solutions based on geographic and spatial data.
Key Result Areas
1. Resolving problems and spatial queries as they arise
2. Analyze GIS information to make informed decisions
3. Assist in outlining and demonstrating GIS benefits to the user departments
4. Training and technical support of network auditors
5. Compile, process, and organize geospatial data from various sources (satellite imagery, maps, government records).
6. Maintain and update GIS databases
7. Create detailed, accurate maps and interactive visualizations to represent data.
8. Use GIS tools to overlay different types of data (e.g., topography, population, land use) for specific purposes
Expected Output
1. Accurate and well-maintained filing system for GIS data and records
2. Compile, process, and organize geospatial data from various sources (satellite imagery, maps, government records).
3. Maintain and update GIS databases
4. Comprehensive records of completed administrative and clerical activities.
Person Specifications
Minimum Academic Qualifications
· A Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or Bachelors Degree in Survey.
· Certificates in various GIS Systems and Applications
Experience
· Minimum of 4 year of experience in a GIS focused industry especially construction and energy sectors
· Familiarity with various computer programming, GIS and Topography software.
Competencies
· Strong GIS skills with two or more GIS packages
· Understanding mathematics and statistical analysis
· Strong Microsoft SQL server and related RDBMS user skills
· Good writing skills for reporting purposes
· A basic understanding of the concepts behind data management in a relational database
· Good IT technical skills.
Working Environment
The role involves both office-based and fieldwork tasks. The role involves working in varying weather conditions and requires adherence to strict safety standards when dealing with equipment. The position may also require after-hours work.
