Job Purpose
To support the Legal Department in handling Labor-related matters by assisting with legal research, drafting documentation, monitoring Labor compliance, and participating in the resolution of employee-related legal issues. The role is designed to provide practical exposure to Labor law and employment relations in a corporate environment.
Impact
The trainee contributes to the company’s compliance with Labor laws and supports proactive resolution of Labor issues, ensuring the company maintains sound Labor practices and risk mitigation strategies.
Key Result Areas
• Assist in monitoring Labor law updates and preparing briefs for legal and HR teams.
• Participate in the drafting and reviewing of employment-related documents under supervision.
• Support the resolution process for employee grievances and disciplinary cases.
• Attend Labor-related meetings and document key discussions and action points.
• Conduct legal research and prepare summaries on employment law matters.
• Assist to maintain organized and updated case files, legal correspondences, and Labor law resources.
• Support the delivery of internal awareness sessions or training on Labor law compliance.
• Draft basic internal memos and reports under supervision.
• Assist in the development and review of Labor policies and procedures.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Legal Officer or Senior Legal Officer.

• Drafted or reviewed employment documentation aligned with legal guidelines
• Legal briefs and case notes prepared on Labor law developments
• Accurate and complete filing of Labor-related documentation
• Participation in legal reviews of Labor policies and HR practices
• Enhanced awareness of Labor laws among HR teams and departments
Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized academic institution
• Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Uganda
• Must have graduated within the last three (3) years
Experience
• No formal work experience required
Competencies
• Basic understanding of Ugandan Labor laws and industrial relations
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• High ethical standards and confidentiality
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to manage tasks with attention to detail and meet deadlines
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal documentation tools
• Willingness to learn and take initiative in a team environment
